What is a microblog "feed"?

A Bakoos microblog feed is a message consisting of 160 characters (max.) which may also contain a URL (website link or links). The integrated URL shortener enables users to shorten any URLs in order to "save characters". It is also possible to attach pictures (up to 4) or a video.

What can I do in Bakoos?

You can post different kinds of ‘feeds’ under the various sections of the site. To share any kind of information with others including news items, or to promote a particular product, a service or a company, you can submit INFO feeds. Under the PROPERTY section, you can list a property for sale or for rent (with pictures) for the relevant city of location. The MARKET section is for the promotion of markets and car boot sales as well as for market stall holders to promote their goods (including pictures). The SHOP section (Bakoos Shop) will be ready for use soon – here you can list products (new & used items) for sale, both as a business and as a private individual. All listed items will automatically show as 'feeds' under the SHOP section for the city where you are located.

How do I activate my account?

After you have registered, you will be sent an email containing an "activation link" (this is an auto-generated email sent to your registered email address). You will need to click on this link in order to activate your account. As soon as you have clicked on the "activation link", your user account is active and you can start posting feeds. Please make sure to also check your ‘junk mail folder’ for the activation email if you cannot see it in your inbox.

I did not receive my activation email – how do I activate my account?

The activation email (containing the link to activate your account) would have been sent to your registered email address (the email address you entered when you signed up for your Bakoos user account). Please make sure to also check your 'junk mail folder' for the activation email if you cannot see it in your inbox. If, for any reason, you did not receive the activation email, please contact us with your account details for us to manually activate your account.

How do I navigate the site?

You can use the COUNTRY and CITY selection drop-down boxes at the TOP of our website (on the right) to navigate to the location (city) of your choice. You do not need to be logged into the site in order to access/read any information (microblog feeds) particular to a specific location (city), but you will need to log in if you wish to submit any content (feeds) to our network.

If you log into the site via the Bakoos homepage (at www.bakoos.com), you can get to your local city homepage (the city for which you registered which is meant to be the city of your location) by clicking on “Home” (in orange colour) in the top left menu of the site. This will take you to your local city homepage, where you can then submit content for the ‘Property’ and ‘Local Markets’ sections.

How can I quickly find and get to a specific city homepage?

Apart from using the COUNTRY and CITY selection drop-down boxes at the TOP of our website (on the right) to navigate to the location (city) of your choice, there are two other ways in which you can get to a city homepage.

1. Type bakoos.city into your web browser. You will be taken to a page with a search box. Enter the city name into the box and click “Submit”. The search results may show more than one city; this is the case if there are two or more cities of the same (or similar) name in the network. The results will also show any city names with similarities in the name to the one you searched for. The country where each city is located is listed in the column to the right of the city name. Please click on the specific city name you were searching for and you will be taken to the local homepage of that city.

There is also an alphabetical menu above the search box which – when clicking on a specific letter – will give you a full list of ALL the cities in our network starting with that letter.

2. If you know the exact city you wish to “visit”, you can simply type bakoos.city/cityname into your web browser and you will be taken directly to the city homepage (f. ex. bakoos.city/london will take you to London, UK).

How do I post an info feed?

Log into your account at www.bakoos.com (the login is at the top right-hand side of the site). Type – or alternatively copy & paste – your text into the box. You can use up to a maximum of 160 characters in total (including any spaces). Click on “Submit Feed” to upload your microblog feed to our site.

You can include a web link (URL = web address) linking to another website which might be relevant to your feed. If the URL of the other website is very long, you can use our ‘URL shortener’ to shorten the web address . To do so, please click on "Shorten & Insert URL" (below the text box, directly below : “Text Only”), copy & paste the URL of the other website into the box and click on the “Shorten And Insert Url” button directly below. This will shorten the URL and insert it into your feed text. Click on “Submit Feed” to upload your feed to our site.

You can also attach up to 4 pictures/images to your feed. To do so, select/click on the radio button (small circle) to the left of “Attach Picture”. Choose the relevant images you wish to attach from your computer, one at a time, by clicking on “Choose file”. Then click on “Upload Images” directly below – this will upload your images to our system. Click on “Submit Feed” to upload your feed to our site. Please note that the Maximum Picture Size is 1MB and the supported File Formats are: GIF, JPG, PNG.

Alternatively, you can attach a video to your feed. Please note that it is currently only possible to attach videos which have been posted on YouTube. To attach a video to your feed, select/click on the radio button (small circle) to the left of “Attach Video”. Copy & paste the video URL (from the YouTube site) into the box. Click on “Submit Feed” to upload your feed to our site.

All INFO feeds are shown at the "world site" level (at www.bakoos.com) as well as on the LOCAL CITY homepage of the user (the city where the user is located), f. ex. if the user is located in London, UK, then his/her feeds will show on the homepage for the city of London, UK (at www.bakoos.city/london).

The link to your property page is automatically created by our system by your filling the Feed/Microblog text box.

To upload an image of your property, click on “Choose file” near the bottom of the form and select the image on your computer. To add FURTHER images, click on “Add More” and then again on “Choose file” (and then again, select the image on your computer). Repeat the process until you have added all your images. Enter the postal/zip code of your property. This will generate a map showing the location of your property (the map will automatically be displayed on your property listing page).

To UPLOAD your property listing to our site, click on “Submit” at the bottom of the form. Your property is now listed and can be viewed (under the “Property” section) on the homepage for the city of its location. To view the full property listing (the page where the full details of your property are displayed), please click on the URL link (in blue colour, starting with http://) at the end of the microblog feed text for your property.

To see a list of ALL properties (for sale and for rent) in a particular city, please click on “Property” (the ‘title’ of the Property section). There is also a facility to EDIT or DELETE any property listings of such properties that were listed by you (if any).

How do I post a market feed?

Posting “Market Feeds” enables stall holders at a local market or car boot sale to “advertise” their wares, i.e. to inform the public about what they have on offer. Anyone can post a market feed, whether you are a professional market stall holder at a local street market or an occasional/once-a-year stall holder at your local car boot sale. As a professional market stall holder, you might wish to inform the local public about the goods you sell, about new products, special offers or when and where visitors can find your stall. As a private once-a-year car boot sale stall holder, you might wish to inform the local public about that special item you have for sale (f. ex. an expensive bicycle).

Posting a market feed is also possible using your mobile phone (smartphone). You could f. ex. set up your stall, then take some pictures of either your stall or specific items you have for sale and then post a market feed. You can attach up to 4 pictures to each market feed (or alternatively a video, but please note that such videos must have been posted to the YouTube site first). People in your local city can now see (on the internet) what you have for sale.

Market Feeds are NOT shown at the "world site" level (at www.bakoos.com), but for the specific city where the market is located. F. ex. if a market/car boot sale is located in London, UK, then the market feeds will show under the “Local Markets” section (centre column) on the local city homepage for London, UK (at www.bakoos.city/london).

To post a market feed, log into your account at www.bakoos.com (the login is at the top right-hand side of the site). Click on “Home” at the top left menu of the site (in orange colour) – this will take you to your local city homepage (the city where you are located). Alternatively, you could bookmark your local city homepage and log in directly on this page (to do so, please click on the “Login/Register” button in the top bar of the site).

Click on “Post a Market Feed” at the top of the “Local Markets” section (centre column of the site) – this will call up the text box. Select the Market/Car Boot Sale for which you wish to post a feed (i.e. the market/car boot sale where you are selling your goods) and type the text into the box (up to 160 characters in total).

You can include a URL link in your market feed. To reduce the length of the URL (in order to “save characters”), please use our ‘URL shortener’. Simply click on “Shorten & Insert URL” below the “Contact Mobile Phone” box... this will open a new box into which you can copy & paste the URL, then click on the “Shorten And Insert Url” button below – this will insert the URL into the market feed text.

To attach pictures to your market feed, click on the radio button (small circle) to the left of “Attach Picture”. This will enable you to select the relevant pictures on your computer (or on your mobile phone if posting the feed using your smartphone). You can attach up to 4 pictures.

Alternatively, you can attach a video to your market feed. Click on the radio button (small circle) to the left of “Attach Video” and insert/copy & paste the video URL into the box. Please note that it is currently only possible to attach videos which have been posted on YouTube.

You also have the option of including a “contact mobile phone number” so that anyone interested in your goods/items can contact you to ask questions and find out more information. You do not need to include a mobile contact number - this is optional but might help sell your items.

To SUBMIT your market feed to our site, click on the “Submit Feed” button in the right bottom corner of the grey box. Your market feed will show under the “Local Markets” section on the homepage for the relevant city.

There will be additional options for sellers to "advertise" their products (items which are listed for sale in the Bakoos Shop) throughout the Bakoos Network on a larger scale (rather than just in their local city), f. ex. throughout their entire country (all the cities in their country of location), or even worldwide.
